Lang Co Beach from Da Nang: How to Get There & What to Do (2026)

10/25/2026

Quick answer: Lang Co is a 10 km arc of quiet sand at the northern foot of the Hai Van Pass, about 30–40 km from central Da Nang. By private car over the pass it takes around 1–1.5 hours with a photo stop at the summit; through the Hai Van tunnel it is under an hour. Most travellers see it as a stop on the way to Hue, but Lang Co Beach from Da Nang also works as a relaxed half-day trip.

Where is Lang Co?

Lang Co is a fishing town on a long sandbar between the sea and Lap An Lagoon, in Hue province, just north of the Hai Van Pass. On one side you have open beach with the Bach Ma mountains behind it; on the other, a calm lagoon lined with oyster farms. It is the first flat ground you reach after coming down from the pass, which is why the view of Lang Co from the summit is one of the most photographed in central Vietnam.

By private car

This is the easiest way to enjoy both the pass and the beach in one go. Your driver picks you up at your hotel, climbs the 21 km pass to the summit (about 496 m), waits while you walk around Hai Van Quan, the old gate at the top, then drops down to Lang Co. For the full route, stops and timings, see our guide to the Hai Van Pass from Da Nang.

Since 2 June 2026 the Hai Van Quan relic site charges an entrance fee (around 70,000 VND per person). It is paid on the spot and is not part of the car price.

By train

The railway hugs the coast below the pass and is one of the prettiest stretches of the North–South line. Sit on the right-hand side going north. Only some trains stop at Lang Co station, so check the timetable at the station or on the Vietnam Railways site before you plan the day around it. Our Da Nang to Hue train day trip guide explains how to buy tickets and which seats to pick.

What to do in Lang Co

  • Swim and relax on the beach. The sand is soft and the beach is far quieter than My Khe in Da Nang. Waves can be strong outside summer, so swim only where locals do and stay out of the water when red flags are up.

  • Lap An Lagoon at sunset. The lagoon sits on the inland side of the town along Highway 1A. The water is shallow and still, so late afternoon gives mirror-like reflections of the mountains. Allow 30–45 minutes for a walk along the lagoon road.

  • Eat oysters and seafood. Lap An is famous for its farmed oysters. Small restaurants and floating huts on the lagoon serve them grilled with spring onion oil or in porridge. Ask the price per kilo before ordering.

  • Elephant Springs (Suoi Voi). Natural freshwater pools and small waterfalls in the hills south of Lang Co. Worth it on a hot day if you have your own transport.

  • The fishing village and morning market. Come early to see the boats come in.

Best time to visit Lang Co

The beach is at its best from April to August, when the sea is calm and the sky is clear. February and March are pleasant but cooler. From October to December central Vietnam gets its heaviest rain and the Hai Van summit is often wrapped in cloud, so the drive is less scenic and the sea can be rough. If you travel then, take the tunnel and keep Lang Co as a lunch stop on the way to Hue. Our month-by-month weather guide has more detail.

  4. 11:30 Seafood lunch by Lap An Lagoon.

  5. 13:00 Back to Da Nang through the tunnel (about 1 hour), or continue north to Hue.

Lang Co on the way to Hue

Lang Co sits almost exactly halfway between Da Nang and Hue, so the most popular way to see it is as a stop on a one-way transfer. Our Da Nang to Hue private car goes over the Hai Van Pass with stops at the summit and Lang Co included, for a fixed price of $60 (5-seat) / $70 (7-seat) per car. Coming from Hoi An, the same route is covered by our Hoi An to Hue transfer.
