Short answer: Da Nang International Airport (DAD) sits right inside the city. The Han River and Dragon Bridge area is only about 3–5 km away and the hotels along My Khe Beach about 5–7 km, so most rides take 10–20 minutes. A Grab car usually costs around 80,000–150,000 VND, a metered taxi around 100,000–180,000 VND, and a pre-booked private car with a driver waiting at arrivals starts from about US$15 per car. Below we compare every option with estimated October 2026 prices, plus tips for late-night flights, families and big luggage.

How far is Da Nang Airport from the city centre?
Very close. Da Nang is one of the few cities in Southeast Asia where you can land and be at your hotel within half an hour of leaving the plane. Typical distances by road:
- Han Market, Dragon Bridge and the Han River promenade (Hai Chau): about 3–5 km, 10–15 minutes.
- My Khe Beach and the beachfront hotels (Son Tra / Ngu Hanh Son): about 5–7 km, 15–20 minutes across one of the river bridges.
- Non Nuoc Beach and the Marble Mountains resorts: about 10–12 km, 20–25 minutes.
- Son Tra Peninsula resorts: about 12–18 km, 25–35 minutes.
- Hoi An: about 30 km, 40–50 minutes. See our full guide to Da Nang Airport to Hoi An.
Rush hour (roughly 7–8 am and 5–6:30 pm) and heavy rain in the wet season (about September to December) can add 10–15 minutes. Beyond that, traffic from the airport is rarely a problem.
Which terminal will you arrive at?
Da Nang Airport has two passenger terminals next to each other. T1 is the domestic terminal (flights from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and other Vietnamese cities) and T2 is the international terminal. Pickup points for taxis, Grab and private drivers are outside each terminal, so check your terminal before you tell a driver where to meet you. If you arrive on an international flight, you will pass immigration and baggage claim first; allow 30–60 minutes from landing to the exit, more when several flights arrive together.
Option 1: Pre-booked private car – the easiest arrival
A driver waiting with your name on a sign is the calmest way to start a trip, especially after a long-haul flight or when you land late at night.
- Fixed price per car, not per person. Our Da Nang airport transfer to hotels in the city starts from US$15 per car, with tolls, parking and fuel included. The price is the same day or night.
- Flight tracking. Your driver follows your flight, so a delay does not cost you extra. We include free waiting time after landing.
- Help with bags. The driver meets you at the exit and loads your luggage, which matters with children, surfboards or golf bags.
- Car sizes. 5-seat cars for couples and small families, 7-seat cars for larger groups or extra luggage. Ask for a child seat when you book.
The only downside is cost: for a solo traveller with a backpack, Grab is cheaper. For two or more people with suitcases, the difference is small and you skip the search for Wi-Fi, a SIM card and the right pickup lane.
Option 2: Grab – cheapest door-to-door ride
Grab is the main ride-hailing app in Da Nang and works well from the airport. Typical fares to the Han River area are about 80,000–120,000 VND, and to My Khe Beach about 100,000–150,000 VND for a 4-seat car. A 7-seat car costs more. The fare is fixed in the app before you confirm.
- Install the app and add a card before you fly. You can also pay cash in Vietnamese dong.
- You need mobile data. Buy a SIM or set up an eSIM before you leave the terminal; there are SIM kiosks in the arrivals halls.
- Follow the signs to the ride-hailing pickup area and check the number plate before you get in.
- At peak times waits can be 5–10 minutes, and prices rise when it rains or several flights land at once.
Option 3: Metered airport taxi
Official taxis queue outside both terminals. A trip to the city centre usually costs about 100,000–180,000 VND on the meter, plus a small airport fee. Larger, well-known taxi brands are the safest choice.
- Use the official taxi queue and ignore drivers who approach you inside the arrivals hall offering a flat price.
- Make sure the meter is switched on when you set off.
- Have your hotel address written down or on your phone, ideally in Vietnamese.
- Small notes help: drivers may not have change for a 500,000 VND note late at night.
Option 4: GrabBike – fast and cheap, if you travel light
A motorbike taxi booked through the app costs only about 40,000–60,000 VND to the centre. The driver provides a helmet. It is only practical with a small backpack, and we do not recommend it in heavy rain or after a long flight when you are tired.
Option 5: Hotel shuttle
Many mid-range and luxury hotels offer an airport pickup, sometimes free and sometimes for a fee. Confirm it in writing at least 48 hours before you arrive, with your flight number and terminal. Choosing where to stay? Our guide to central Da Nang hotels is a good place to start.
Option 6: Public bus
Da Nang has a public bus network and some routes pass near the airport, with very low fares. In practice, buses are infrequent, stops can be a walk from the terminals, and routes and timetables change, so they suit backpackers with light bags and no time pressure. Ask at the information desk in the terminal for the current route. Our guide to Da Nang's public transport explains how the buses work.

Which option should you choose?
- Solo, light luggage, phone with data: Grab car or GrabBike.
- Couple with suitcases: Grab car if you have data; a private car if you land late or want zero hassle.
- Family with children: a pre-booked 7-seat car with a child seat.
- Group of 4–6 friends: a 7-seat private car or a 7-seat Grab, which often works out cheaper per person than two taxis.
- Arriving after midnight: pre-book. Fewer taxis and Grab drivers are around, and you will be glad someone is waiting.
Arrival checklist for Da Nang Airport
- Visa sorted before you fly. Check whether you need a visa and, if you do, apply on the official portal in good time. Our Vietnam eVisa assistance page explains how we can help.
- Some cash in dong. There are ATMs and exchange counters in the arrivals halls. A few hundred thousand dong covers a taxi and your first meal.
- Mobile data. A local SIM or eSIM makes Grab, maps and messaging easy.
- Hotel address saved offline. Include the street name and number, and the hotel's phone number.
- Know your terminal. T1 domestic, T2 international, so you meet your driver in the right place.
Going back to the airport
Because the airport is so close, leave your hotel in the city about 2.5–3 hours before an international flight and about 1.5–2 hours before a domestic flight. Add extra time in the morning and evening rush hours and on public holidays. Your hotel can call a taxi, Grab works throughout the city, or you can book the same private transfer in reverse at the same fixed price.
