Short answer: Asia Park — latterly branded Da Nang Downtown — stopped receiving visitors on 3 September 2025. The site is now a construction zone. You cannot visit it, ride the Sun Wheel, or buy a ticket.

What happened to Asia Park
Asia Park Da Nang ran for eleven years. It opened in 2014 on the riverfront between the Tran Thi Ly and Tien Son bridges, and in its final years operated under the name Da Nang Downtown. Its last day of rides was 2 September 2025; from 3 September 2025 it stopped receiving visitors.
The reason was not poor trade. The land was handed over to a much larger redevelopment by the same operator, Sun Group. Da Nang’s official tourism portal describes the park as having “said goodbye”, and the park’s director told Tuoi Tre the closure was to make way for a new project.
Officially the wording is tạm dừng hoạt động — “temporarily suspended”. Do not read that as “reopening soon”. Ground was broken on the replacement development on 19 August 2025, two weeks before the park closed. There is no announced reopening date for Asia Park in any form.

What is being built there instead
The replacement is a mixed-use complex of entertainment, retail and premium services across roughly 77 hectares of the same riverfront strip. Its centrepiece is a 69-storey, 408-metre tower — which VnExpress reports would be the second-tallest building in Vietnam, after Landmark 81 in Ho Chi Minh City. Reported investment is in the region of VND 79,790 billion. Completion has been discussed around 2030.
In practice, for anyone visiting Da Nang between now and then: this stretch of the Han River’s east bank is a building site, and the amusement park that used to anchor it is gone.
What about the Sun Wheel?
The Sun Wheel — the 115-metre ferris wheel that was the park’s landmark and one of Da Nang’s most photographed structures — is not operating, because the park it sits inside is closed.
Whether it is still physically standing is a different question, and an honest answer is that we could not confirm it. Some secondary sources suggest the wheel is being retained within the new development while the roller coasters were dismantled; none of them is an official source, and Sun Group has published nothing definitive. We would rather tell you that than guess. If you see a recent guide claiming you can ride it, that guide has not been checked.

Where to go instead
Everything below was checked in August 2026. Prices and hours move, so treat them as a starting point rather than a promise.
For a theme park with rides: Sun World Ba Na Hills
Still fully operating, and the closest replacement for what Asia Park offered — cable cars, the Golden Bridge, the Fantasy Park indoor games complex and the French Village. It is a day trip rather than an evening out: roughly an hour’s drive west of the city. Buy tickets on the official Sun World site rather than a reseller, and check opening hours before you commit, because they change seasonally. Open in Google Maps
For families with children: Mikazuki Water Park 365
An indoor and outdoor water park at the Xuan Thieu end of the beach, open 09:00–19:00 daily. Da Nang’s tourism portal published 2026 pricing in April: weekday adult tickets from 350,000₫, weekend and holiday adult tickets from 400,000₫, with reduced rates for children and over-60s. Note that water park entry is ticketed separately from the hotel — do not assume a room booking includes it. Open in Google Maps
For an evening by the river: Son Tra Night Market
At the Dragon Bridge end of Ly Nam De, and the closest thing to the riverside-evening feeling Asia Park had. It went through a suspension and a re-tender in 2024–25; in April 2025 the original operator won the new three-year lease and it continues at the same spot. Entry is free. Check current hours locally — they have changed more than once. Open in Google Maps
For a rainy afternoon: the museums
The Museum of Cham Sculpture, 02 Đường 2 Tháng 9, Hải Châu, is open 07:00–17:00; adult tickets 40,000₫, free for under-16s. The Da Nang Museum reopened on 28 March 2025 in the restored 1900 city hall building at 42–44 Bạch Đằng (the same building also fronts 31 Trần Phú), open 08:00–17:00; since 3 July 2025 admission is 50,000₫, with reductions for residents and students and free entry for under-16s and over-60s. The Fine Arts Museum is at 78 Lê Duẩn, open 08:00–17:00.
One place to skip for now
Helio Center, often listed alongside Asia Park in older guides, suspended Helio Play, Helio Kids and its night market for renovation on 5 September 2025 — two days after Asia Park closed. The city tourism portal still lists them as suspended and no reopening has been confirmed. The Metiz cinema at the same address stayed open.

Frequently asked questions
Is Asia Park Da Nang still open in 2026?
No. It stopped receiving visitors on 3 September 2025 and the site is now under construction. There is no announced reopening date.
Can you still ride the Sun Wheel in Da Nang?
No. The Sun Wheel sat inside Asia Park, which is closed, so it is not operating. Whether the structure itself still stands has not been confirmed by any official source.
Why did Asia Park close?
The site was handed over for a much larger mixed-use redevelopment by Sun Group, which broke ground on 19 August 2025. The closure was announced as temporary, but the replacement project occupies the same land.
What is replacing Asia Park in Da Nang?
A complex of entertainment, retail and premium services across about 77 hectares, anchored by a 69-storey, 408-metre tower that VnExpress reports would be Vietnam’s second-tallest building. Completion has been discussed around 2030.
What is the best alternative to Asia Park for an evening out?
Son Tra Night Market by the Dragon Bridge, which is open and free to enter. For rides, Sun World Ba Na Hills is the nearest equivalent, though it is a full day trip rather than an evening.
How we checked this
The closure date, the official wording and the replacement project were taken from Da Nang’s official city tourism portal and from Vietnamese news reporting, read on 28 August 2026. Opening hours and ticket prices for the alternatives come from each venue’s own listing or from the city tourism portal on the same date. Where we could not confirm something — the physical fate of the Sun Wheel, and whether Helio Center has reopened — this page says so rather than guessing. If something here has changed, tell us and we will correct it.
